The offshore base and the heliport
Den Helder combines a naval port, a commercial offshore supply base at the Nieuwe Haven and Den Helder Airport, from which helicopters depart to platforms and offshore wind assets. Crews travelling out typically report to a heliport check-in with a fixed deadline, complete safety briefings, and are weighed with their baggage before boarding.

The journey from Schiphol and Amsterdam
Den Helder lies at the far north of Noord-Holland. From Schiphol the drive is around 75 to 90 minutes via the A9, A7 and N250; from Amsterdam roughly the same. There is no motorway for the final stretch, and in winter the coastal roads can be slow, so we plan generously for outbound flights and helicopter check-ins.
Night arrivals at Schiphol with an early heliport slot the next morning are common. We usually recommend a hotel in Den Helder itself rather than near the airport, and we arrange both legs so the crew gets maximum rest.
Returning crews and weather delays
Helicopter movements are weather dependent. Fog on the coast or high winds offshore can hold a crew for hours or push a return to the following day. We keep the return transfer flexible, confirm with the heliport before dispatching, and reschedule at no penalty when the delay comes from the flight rather than the booking.
