Eemshaven in Groningen is the northern base for offshore wind installation and maintenance in the Dutch and German North Sea. It is also a long way from Schiphol, which makes planning the transfer part of the job.
A port built around offshore wind
Eemshaven handles heavy-lift and installation vessels, cable-lay campaigns, service operation vessels and the onshore infrastructure supporting wind farms in the Dutch, German and wider North Sea. Crew volumes are seasonal and campaign-driven: quiet for weeks, then twenty technicians and a container of tools arriving on the same day.
Getting to Eemshaven
From Schiphol the drive is about 230 kilometres and around two and a half hours via the A6 and A7, longer with roadworks around the Afsluitdijk or Joure. Groningen Airport Eelde is roughly 50 minutes away and is occasionally used for chartered crew flights. Public transport to the port area is limited and effectively unusable for crews with offshore luggage or shift timings.
Because of the distance we usually recommend a single vehicle for the whole group and a realistic departure time from the airport, especially when a vessel or a tidal window fixes the deadline. Splitting a crew across small cars over 230 kilometres costs more and arrives less predictably than one minibus.

Campaign and project transportation
For installation campaigns we set up a fixed transport plan for the duration: arrival waves from Schiphol, daily runs between accommodation and the quay at shift handover, and departure waves at demobilisation. One coordinator on each side, one monthly invoice with the project reference, and vehicles committed for the campaign period rather than booked day by day.
