Frequently asked questions about crew transportation
Practical answers about offshore crew transport in the Netherlands: how bookings work, what we cover, how accounts and invoicing are handled and what happens when plans change.
About offshore crew transportation
What is offshore crew transportation?
Offshore crew transportation is the ground transport of offshore personnel between airports, hotels, company sites, heliports and the ports where they join or leave a vessel or installation. It is planned around vessel schedules, flight arrivals and helicopter slots rather than office hours, and it accounts for heavy offshore luggage and frequent last-minute change.
Do you provide offshore crew transport in the Netherlands?
Yes, nationwide. Our busiest corridors are Schiphol to IJmuiden, Den Helder, Rotterdam and Eemshaven, but we serve every Dutch port, offshore base, heliport, training centre and crew hotel.
Who are your clients?
Offshore operators, vessel owners and managers, offshore wind developers and contractors, survey and subsea companies, shipping companies, port agents, crewing agencies and industrial or energy companies moving contractors and shift personnel.
Are you a taxi company?
NorthSea Crew Transfer is a specialist crew transportation service operated by Taxi Direct Haarlem, an established Dutch passenger transportation company. The operational backbone, vehicles and drivers come from that company; the service, planning and account structure are built specifically for offshore and maritime work.
Locations and routes
Can you transport offshore personnel from Schiphol Airport?
Yes. Schiphol is our largest single pickup point. Drivers meet crews inside the arrivals hall with a name board and drive them to ports, offshore bases, hotels and company sites throughout the country, 24 hours a day.
Do you provide crew transfers to IJmuiden?
Yes. IJmuiden is a core service area, including the Felison Terminal, the offshore wind quays and the local crew hotels in IJmuiden, Beverwijk, Velsen and Haarlem. The drive from Schiphol is normally 35 to 45 minutes.
Do you provide crew transport to Den Helder?
Yes, including the offshore supply base, the Nieuwe Diep quays and Den Helder Airport heliport. Allow 75 to 90 minutes from Schiphol, and depart at least two and a half hours before a heliport reporting time.
Do you cover Rotterdam and Eemshaven?
Yes. In Rotterdam we serve the entire port from the city quays to the Maasvlakte, and in the north we run regular transfers to the Eemshaven wind and energy terminals, around two and a half hours from Schiphol.
Booking, accounts and invoicing
Can companies book transportation on account?
Yes. Corporate accounts allow your authorised bookers to arrange transfers without any payment at the vehicle. Accounts are usually active within one working day.
Do you offer monthly invoicing?
Yes. All journeys in a calendar month appear on one invoice, with the date, route, passenger count and your project reference or cost centre shown per line.
Can crewing agencies book transportation?
Yes. Crewing, recruitment and offshore personnel agencies book for the personnel they place and receive consolidated invoices that can be split per client, vessel or placement for re-billing.
How far in advance should crew transportation be booked?
For planned crew changes, 24 to 48 hours gives the best vehicle availability, particularly for minibuses and coaches. Same-day and short-notice requests are accepted around the clock.
How do I know my transfer is confirmed?
A request becomes a booking when you receive our written confirmation stating vehicle type, timing and price, or a verbal confirmation on the phone for urgent work.
Operations, vehicles and changes
Can you arrange transportation 24/7?
Yes. The operations desk is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including weekends and public holidays.
Can you handle last-minute crew changes?
Yes. Medical crew changes, replacement personnel, cancelled flights and vessels sailing early are routine for us. In the Randstad and IJmond region a vehicle can usually be moving within the hour.
Do you provide group transportation?
Yes. Minibuses of 16 to 20 seats and coaches are available, with dedicated luggage capacity and, where needed, an additional luggage vehicle.
Can you transport offshore wind personnel?
Yes. Wind technicians, commissioning engineers and installation crews are among our most frequent passengers, especially to IJmuiden, Den Helder, Eemshaven and Vlissingen.
Can you monitor flight arrivals?
Yes. Provide the flight number and we track the actual arrival, reschedule the driver automatically and do not charge waiting time caused by airline delays.
What happens if the vessel is delayed?
Tell us the revised arrival and we re-time the affected legs. For account holders this is a single phone call; the booking is not cancelled and re-entered.
Can the driver take our crew directly to the quay?
In many Dutch terminals, yes, provided access is notified in advance. Where quayside access is not permitted we drop off at the crew gate and coordinate with the agent on site.
What luggage can you carry?
Suitcases, offshore bags, survival suits, helmets, tool bags and flight cases. Tell us the real volume at booking so the vehicle is sized correctly. We do not carry hazardous goods.
