One port, many destinations
Saying a vessel is 'in Rotterdam' narrows it down very little. Waalhaven is fifteen minutes from Rotterdam Centraal; Maasvlakte II can be fifty minutes further west, past Europoort and the Botlek, along roads that carry heavy industrial traffic. The difference between those two berths is more than an hour of driving.
We ask for the terminal name, the berth number and the agent's details at booking, and we plan the journey from the actual gate rather than from a city postcode. For crews arriving from Schiphol this makes the difference between reaching the vessel before sailing and arriving after the gangway is up.

Sign-on and sign-off in Rotterdam
Rotterdam is a major crew change port for merchant shipping as well as offshore. Seafarers signing on typically arrive at Schiphol, sometimes at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, and need to reach the vessel before it sails, often with a short window between berthing and departure.
Sign-off works the other way: the crew comes ashore when the vessel is secure, which may be at 02:00, and needs immediate transport to a hotel or straight to the airport. Security and access on the Maasvlakte
Most Rotterdam terminals are ISPS regulated and require pre-notification of the driver and vehicle, sometimes with a TWIC-equivalent pass or an escort.
