How to arrange crew transportation from Schiphol to IJmuiden

The route and its weak points

There are two practical routes. The A9 to the A22 through the Velsertunnel is the most direct; the A9 to the A8 and the Wijkertunnel is the alternative. Both cross the North Sea Canal, and both tunnels close periodically for maintenance, usually at night, which is exactly when offshore crews travel.

When one tunnel closes, traffic transfers to the other and a 40 minute run can become 80. Timing against the vessel, not the clock
